Since I won't be in class on Thursday, I wanted to post about the artist I chose. Greenfield does a lot of commercial/editorial work and many of these images she captures are from shoots for major magazines. Some of you might have seen a documentary she made about eating disorders, "Thin." She also recently made a short video called, "Foreclosure: Death of the American Dream.":
I enjoy her photographs and videos because they feel very contemporary and relatable to me. I appreciate the focus on issues facing young girls/teenagers and I think that she captures it from a point of understanding. The stories accompanying the photographs are written by the subjects themselves and are often heartbreaking. These photographs are from her book "Girl Culture":




these pictures make me sad for women.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It's sad what most people perceive as being beautiful. There is plenty to blame for that. I wish the breaking stereotypes show was more like this.
